Southern California Edison
Southern California Edison (SCE), the largest subsidiary of Edison International (NYSE: EIX) is the company that provides electricity to most of Southern California.
SCE still owns all of its electrical transmission facilities and equipment, but was forced to sell many of its power plants under California's wholesale energy market "deregulation".
SCE buys all of the electricity produced by the Solar Electricity Generaing Systems (SEGS) plants in the Mojave Desert, under long-term contracts.
SCE has entered into a contract with Stirling Energy Systems to buy electricity from a 500 megawatt, 4,600 acre (19 square kilometer), solar power plant which is due to open in 2009. This will be the first commercial application of the Stirling Solar Dish.
