Energy Wholesalers

During the California Electricity Crisis of 2000 and 2001, some the largest energy wholesalers were Reliant Energy, AES Pacific, Dynegy Power, and Duke Energy -- most out-of-state companies.

With California's move toward renewable energy, several corporations relatively new to the renewable energy sector are buying up industrial-scale solar and wind generation assets in California, such as The Carlyle Group and FPL Energy.

Of the companies that have signed long-term contracts to provide California's largest utilities with electricity from large solar-therml plants all but BrightSource Energy are headquartered outside of California.
